Differential Equations with Impulse Effects

Significant interest in the investigation of systems with discontinuous trajectories is explained by the development of equipment in which significant role is played by impulsive control systems and impulsive computing systems. Impulsive systems are also encountered in numerous problems of natural sciences described by mathematical models with conditions reflecting the impulsive action of external forces with pulses whose duration can be neglected. Differential equations with set-valued right-hand side arise in the investigation of evolution processes in the case of measurement errors, inaccuracy or incompleteness of information, action of bounded perturbations, violation of unique solvabili...

The chapter presents a new approach to determining the strength of masonry reinforced with transverse meshes in mortar joints. The method consists of using the values of the modulus of elasticity and limiting deformations of the stone material, mortar for joints, and both steel and composite reinforcements. An analytical notation is proposed that integrally takes into account the characteristics of the initial materials. The results of physical tests of centrally loaded masonry pillars reinforced with steel and composite meshes are given. To test the masonry, widely used materials were used: solid brick and cement-sand mortar. The values of the bearing capacity, deformations, and internal stresses of the masonry are obtained. It is determined that the stresses in the reinforcing bars of the meshes are unevenly distributed in the horizontal plane of the mortar joint and amount to 20,Äì37% of the design resistance of the mesh material. The strength of masonry reinforced with composite meshes is 65,Äì75% of steel of the same cross section. It is shown that there is a good convergence of test results with the presented analytical dependence.

The Seven Year Itch (A J.J. McCall Novel)

A New Threat from an Old Foe... When turncoats betray America's human intelligence assets, there is no greater failure than the loss of life-and no one knows that better than FBI Special Agent J.J. McCall, a born lie detector who recruits foreign spies to catch American traitors. She and co-case agent Tony Donato have lost two of their most critical Russian sources in the past two years, and they may lose another in just a few short days if they don't catch him. The ICE PHANTOM. Code name for a near-dead investigation initiated to identify a rumored insider spy more insidious and elusive than Ames and Hanssen combined. After a decade of fruitless investigations, the Intelligence Community fe...

CdTe is a nearly perfect absorber material for second generation polycrystalline solar cells because the bandgap closely matches the peak of the solar spectrum, relatively high absorption coefficient and good electronic properties in the polycrystalline phase. Fabricating high-efficiency CdS/CdTe solar cells with an ultra-thin absorber layer is a challenging yet highly desirable step in improving CdTe technology. Most of today's CdTe solar cells utilize an absorber layer which is about 2.5 microns to 8 microns thick. Thinning this layer down typically results in poorer cell performance due to shunting, incomplete photon absorption, fully depleted CdTe layer or interference between the main a...
