Women in Law Enforcement Careers

With the grace and insight for which she is known, Marva Dawn shows how the opening pages of the book of Genesis rivet our attention on God, calling us to worship and to praise. The repeated words, phrases, and actions themselves beckon us into a rhythm of worship which touches our very souls.By focusing on God, we become different people--not by trying to perfect a technique or follow a set of rules, but by allowing who God is to form who we are. As a result, our attitudes and actions change toward the world God has created. Our desire for justice swells. Relationships between men and women are transformed. The consequences of not centering on God are tragic for creation and culture. Yet here Dawn helps us see anew the grace He offers to overcome our rebellious and wandering hearts.Join in this celebration of praise for the difference God makes.

Using the specific occupation of law enforcement, this study explored changes in work social support sources over time. The contributions of two individual characteristics, gender and negative affectivity (NA), to the acquisition of social support were also reported. Two hypotheses were tested: (1) social support provided by work sources will increase significantly over time and (2) controlling for NA, the level of job strains will be a function of the level of reported stressors and the level of work social support received such that stress will be positively related to strain, work social support will be negatively related to strain, and work social support will interact with stressors to affect strain. Neither gender nor NA interacted significantly with time to affect the work social support scores. Although time did have a main effect on social support from training officers, the social support scores initially decreased and then increased. The time X site interaction was significant for both social support sources, but a consistent pattern across sites was not found.

Introduction to American Policing: An Applied Approach connect criminal justice, criminology, and law enforcement knowledge to the progress of the police community. Students are encouraged to consider the way some believe policing should be while examining evidence about the way it is.
