The series of anthologies: These Human Shores, of which this book is the first, will explore the nature of life from birth to death. The theme of this book was chosen by our founder, Ron Wiseman. As editor of These Human Shores, he has creatively and wisely chosen poems that will not only celebrate life, but will reawaken the feelings we all have about the wonder and splendor of living. The fountains of words that are displayed upon these pages speak from the lives of brilliant poets from all over the world. From wise words to enchanting tales and funny stories of babyhood, through the vast array of stories and anecdotes of toddlerhood, this book describes the beginning of life from many perspectives, then it becomes much more reflective as we bring you the greatest treasures of life: "Memories through sessions of sweet silent thought". We laugh, we cry, we smile, we sigh and most of all we affirm life itself. This is life, this is poetry, this is love.
From a slow, sensual kiss to a warm and lasting memory, love and passion are two of the greatest emotions we can experience as human beings. Over 50 gifted poets from nine countries convey the absolute joy and splendor of love as seen through the eyes of a poet. Each poem in this exquisite collection has been selected for its individual style, the wonderful imagery created, a lush use of language, or the ideas and thoughts that are brought forth in the reader. This will be a cherished collection by anyone who appreciates romantic fervor and meaningful affection.
An exceptional collection of poems from our members. All of them were posted on our Facebook wall, many of them moved on and found their way into our hearts as well. Lucky the reader choosing to delve into this collection of literate beauty.
Our third contest. The good news being that Aquillrelle starts attracting more submissions - with about 1000 poems and 300 poets there is nothing to complain about. The bad news being that high quality submissions were so numerous that choosing the winners was a real ordeal. Oh, what a wonderful ordeal. . . As always - we don't ask others to take our word for it. We ask them to test our taste and judge our judgment. Here is your opportunity. The poems in this book are anything from good to stupendous. - Back cover
If the flower had a voice it would sing with Nicolette's poetic translations from the soul. There is no other poet who writes with such eloquence and transparency from the heart of a falling petal or the weeping of a crushed hope. She captures the biography of a flower so delightfully that it is hard not to melt in the sun or sigh like a swollen moon each time a flower closes or opens. You will find solace beneath the surface of Nicolette's poetry and you will feel inclined to embrace her words with a subdued passion; not because there is anything quiet about it, but because Nicolette has found the hush between heartbeats. The silence that frightens many is the very place from where she translates the emotion with stunning lyrical notability.
The winners of Aquillrelle's first Publishing Contest are all included in this book. Oh, the beauty of this child birthed by the marriage of professional and aspiring voices, each voice limited in its expression by nothing but personal talent, avidity of word and poetry of heart.
Poetry of a quality able to cut tunnels through pouring rain and to turn last year's crumbled leaves into this year's swarms of butterflies. Poems like fistfuls of rich and enveloping bursts of imagination, creativity and expression. An outstanding collection.
