Biography of William Adams Hickman (1815-1883), born in Warren County, Kentucky to Edwin Temple Hickman and Elizabeth Adams. Bill married Bernetta Burckhartt in 1832 in Randolph County, Missouri, and they became Mormon converts in 1838, moving to Nauvoo, Illinois. Bill was one of the group of bodyguards of Joseph Smith Jr. He received his endowments in Nauvoo, and moved westward in 1846 to Iowa, and then to Council Bluffs, Nebraska, where he remained at the request of Brigham Young to supervise security.
