William Maule, Esq., of Edinburgh sued Hon. William Ramsay Maule of Panmure in 1821, claiming rights to leases of the house and parks of Brechin and Panmure, their rents and profits since the death of Lieutenant Thomas Maule, his father. He claimed L.125,000 was owed him. The origins of this matter date to at least 1782. These records cover the period 1826-1830.

Thomas Maule (1643-1724) immigrated in 1655 from England to Barbados, where he became a Quaker, and in 1658 he immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts, moving to Salem, Massachusetts in 1668. Descendants lived in New England, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Illinois, Washington and elsewhere. Includes ancestors in France and England to about 800 A.D.
