Chiefly documents containing orders for goods to be sold in a general store for such items as clothing, sewing supplies, hardware, shot and powder, household items, pocket and pen knives, books, mouse and rat traps, tooth brushes, wall paper, elastic cloth, food, iron and steel bars, umbrellas, etc. Items were purchased from vendors in New York City and elsewhere in New York, including vendors in the towns of Troy, Albany, and Lansingburgh as well as the Vermont towns of Bennington and Shaftsbury. The largest order is dated 1791 (7 p.) with all items (cloth, tools, food, dinnerware, brandy, etc.) being purchased from Stephen Gorham, of New York City, a relationship continuing for many years. Collection includes several unrelated materials such as a 1877 receipt from the Troy Carriage Repository; statement of court costs in the case of Eli Brownson vs. Shusin in 1821; and a resolution signed by the Town of Sunderland, Vt., regarding the recovery of Lucy Prince's property rights in a case she successfully argued before the Vermont Supreme Court.

Practical Handbook of CUSTOMER SERVICE OPERATIONS
Even the most casual reader leafing through the pages of this book will quickly realize that it is not the thoughts of one indi vidual set down on paper, but rather the synergism of many people. Herbert Goeler of American Cyanamid and Keith Slater of Johns-Manville, the latter now retired, are certainly the brightest stars in my particular customer service galaxy. They have been well-springs of information, thinkers and thought starters, friends and fellow-believers, for almost two decades. Without the encouragement and inspiration they gave me, this book would be much shorter and far less relevant. In 1984, my firm presented Herb and Keith with our special "Patron Saint" Award; it doesn't say nearly enough for what they have meant to me personally and, through me, to the field of customer service management where I disseminate ideas and guidance as an editor and teacher. Some years ago, the American Management Associations asked me to chair a series of seminars on Customer Service Management in the U. S. and Canada. Through this activity I met many wonderful people who in many cases taught me more than I taught them.
The Fort McClellan POW Camp
The POW Camp at Fort McClellan, Alabama, was one of hundreds of American containment centers built to hold the hundreds of thousands of German prisoners captured during World War II. The camp's well-maintained and humane facilities gained it a reputation as a "model camp." Military officials praised its elimination of major operational problems. International inspectors commended it, calling it one of the best camps in the country. Prisoners accepted and even enjoyed their time there. Drawing on official documents and recollections of prisoners, soldiers and civilians, this book provides a personal and detailed history of a widely praised and admired place of internment.
