"I read William Taylor Jr.'s poems with a delicious dread, or call it envy, or call it the anxiety of recent influence, because his writing makes me want to write more, and I sort of want to write like him, for the way he captures thebeating heart of human sadness, that pulse beneath the streets and behind the faces of strangers, which he managesto infuse with both the singular beauty of the everyday and a rare compassion for the broken among us, and so Iwant to go out and watch this fallen world with him and toast our fortunes as poets, poor as they may be, because inhis work I am led back to the lost art of seeing, and for that I am ever grateful." - Carl Watson, author of Beneaththe Empire...

On Full Automatic

Vietnam 1967-68 Eighteen-year-old Marine recruit William V. Taylor Jr. and his brother Marines are assembled into a new reactionary force that is immediately tested in the fire of a bloody conflict known as Operation Beaver Cage. After a traumatic first fight, they push through back-to-back operations with little time to rest or reflect. Those who survive will return home ensnared by everlasting memories of a real, but entirely surreal nightmare. Now after more than fifty years of holding everything in, Taylor shares his experience in explicit and often horrific detail and with a reverent honor for those Marines who did not live to tell the tale. Taylor reveals what it truly means to walk the path of a warrior, to sacrifice, and to live a lifetime with the memories of a war-seeking answers to the question, "Was it worth it?"

Fiction. AN AGE OF MONSTERS is the first prose collection by William Taylor Jr. The book features fifteen short stories by Taylor, plus photography by Julie Michelle. "William Taylor Jr: What would you do if you were trapped in a cage? Hiss at the monsters outside, stained in your own piss and stink? And what would you dream about, should you get out? Maybe plot revenge on a lover. Maybe kill a man over $400 and a stupid insult. And what about all those other people on the outside: drunken clowns and murderous four year olds; wannabe artists and crazies in trains? Maybe, just maybe, when someone finally did open that door to let you out, you would just sniff the air, shake, then cower back into the farthest corner of your cell, listening to all the other prisoners, wailing and crying in theirs." R L Raymond"

The poems in Pretty Things To Say by William Taylor Jr. are a stagger down Lou Reed's Dirty Boulevard. These are street poems, people poems, poet's poems of raw openness and bare honesty. They are an exploration of cities, people and the poet himself from the vantage point of cafes, barstools, sidewalks and second story windows. William crafts poems masterfully while creating a sense of communion with the reader, as all good poetry should. In his poem, The Mistake, he offers us an invitation, "If you're free on Tuesday/ we could try and find out/ together" and who could resist an invitation like that?
