Collection of letters relating to the death of Private William Carter at the Dardenelles on the first day of the Gallipoli landing, 25 April 1915. Private Carter was born in Traralgon but was a resident of Cobram. The collection includes letters from Private William Attwater who was with his friend Carter when he died and describes in detail how this happened ; follow-up letters to Mrs Carter in late 1915, and another in June 1916. Letters to Mrs Carter from John and Alex Walsh who had worked with Carter; plus a letter from the Citizens Patriotic Committee of Traralgon, where Private Carter's mother lived.
