Held Captive by Gas
Gas makes or breaks economies, as shown by the effects of the 2009 Ukraine/Russia gas supply crisis. Joshua Posaner looks at four case study countries in Central and Eastern Europe. He examines the interdependence between the domestic political structure of a gas import-dependent country and the price it paid for imports up to 2014, using the level of reliance on the dominant supplier as an indicator. The more dependent a country is on a single supplier, the more it pays for its supplies. The author aims to explain why capitals prioritize energy security and balance their import portfolios differently, while taking a new angle on the European gas system. This book is a very timely account of the legal, economic and political consequences for border states caught in the current tug-of-war between the West and Russia.The Ukraine crisis of 2014 focused policy-makers’ attention on a geographical area full of dangers that had gone relatively unnoticed since the breakup of the Soviet Union, namely the security dynamics of the border states of Eastern Europe and the Black Sea. Klimat a wulkany
Ostatni z zawartych w tej książce artykułów napisałem 15 stycznia tego roku. Tego dnia, późnym porankiem znalazłem na portalu onet.pl informację o erupcji wulkanu Hunga Tonga-Hunga Haʻapai. Właściwie nie chciałem już włączać tu więcej artykułów, sądziłem, że i tak wszystko zostało powiedziane. Moja hipoteza dotycząca przyczyn zmian klimatycznych została już wystarczająco wykazana, przedstawione dowody wydawały mi się wystarczające. Zmiany klimatyczne mają związek z wulkanizmem, zależą też od prądów oceanicznych i skali zlodowacenia w danym okresie. Wpływ mają też procesy zachodzące w stratosferze…
