The Dilemmas of Dissidence in East-Central Europe
Discusses one of the major currents leading to the fall of communism. Falk examines the intellectual dissident movements in Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary from the late 1960s through to 1989. In spite of its historic significance, no other comprehensive survey has appeared on the subject. The book aims to reconstruct and analyze the disputes over the Polish-Jewish past and memory in public debates in Poland between 1985 and 2012. The analysis includes the course and dynamics of the debates and, most importantly, the panorama of opinions revealed in the process.
