The Books of Kings
This collaborative commentary on, or dictionary of, Kings, explores cross-cutting aspects of Kings ranging from the analysis of its composition, historically regarded, to its transmission and reception. Ample attention is accorded sources, figures and peoples who play a part in the book. The commentary deals with Kings treatment in translation and role in later ancient literature. While our comments do not proceed verse by verse, the volume furnishes guidance, from contributors highly qualified to advance contemporary discussion, on the book's historical background, its literary intentions and characteristics, and on themes and motifs central to its understanding, both of itself and of the world from which it arose. This volume functions as a meta-commentary, offering windows into the secondary literature, but assembling data more fully than is the case in individual commentaries.

Human leadership is a multifaceted topic in the Hebrew Bible. This holds true not only for the final form of the texts, but also for their literary history. A large range of distributions emerges from the successive sharpening or modification of different aspects of leadership. While some of them are combined to a complex figuration of leadership, others remain reserved for certain individuals. Furthermore, it can be considered a consensus within the scholarly debate, that concepts of leadership have a certain connection to the history of ancient Israel which is, though, hard to ascertain. Abraham in Mamre
This volume deals with historical and exegetical problems of the Abraham story in the book of Genesis. The first part describes the results of archaeological investigations at Hebron and Mamre in Southern Palestine including remarks on the status of the province of Judah in the first millennium BCE, especially in the Babylonian and Persian period. The second part presents exegetical comments on Genesis chapter 13 and 18. The concluding part of the volume relates the historical and exegetical aspects. The Abraham story is interpreted as a product of the Judaean people of the Babylonian and Persian Period.
Settlement History Around the Sea of Galilee from the Neolithic to the Persian Period
The area around the Sea of Galilee has always been densely settled. Several important excavation sites are situated in this territory, and scholars have long been interested in this area. However, landscape archaeology in this area has received little attention over the last century. Careful research into the settlement history gives deeper insight into the historical and economic development of each of the five different geographical units surrounding the Sea of Galilee: the Jordan Valley, Lower Galilee, Upper Galilee, the Golan and the Transjordanian hill country. Mapping the fertile fields in this region and comparing them with the distribution of sites illuminates the economic conditions in each period. In a similar vein the road connections and the intensity of trade have been reconstructed. The distribution patterns of the sites offer some new data for the basalt working industry in Upper Galilee and the Golan. Additionally, the biblical and extra-biblical sites mentioned in ancient texts have been identified with sites known by archaeological research.
