China-Russia Relations in Central Asia
As China rises to global power status, its relations with other major powers, including Russia, are constantly renegotiated. Energy figures prominently in both countries’ foreign policy. An extensive analysis of Chinese language sources – academic debate 1997-2012 – confirms a collision of interests over Central Asian reserves. While unanimous appeals to compromise render previous predictions of impending confrontation unconvincing, descriptions of Sino-Central Asian energy relations as “central to energy security”, and the explicit rejection of a Russian “sphere of influence”, also exclude a retreat. In the long term, China will likely replace Russia as the dominant force in Central Asia’s energy sector, causing the Kremlin to perceive another “encroachment”. The current notion of a “strategic partnership” will inevitably be challenged.

The films reflect the shifting dynamics of the Chinese film industry, from sweeping epics to unabashedly political docudramas, although straight documentaries are excluded from the current work. The entries include the title in English, the Chinese title (in Pinyin romanization with each syllable noted separately for clarity), year of release, studio, technical information (e.g., black and white or color, letterboxed or widescreen), length, technical credits, literary source (when applicable), cast, plot summary, and awards won.

Multiple Sclerosis and Related Disorders: Challenges and Approaches to Mechanisms, Biomarkers, and Therapeutic Targets
Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune condition that causes inflammatory damage to the central nervous system. The pathologic features are diffuse and focal inflammation, demyelination, gliosis, and neuronal damage in the optic nerves, brain, and spinal cord. Multiple sclerosis remains a challenging and disabling disease. There is a greater understanding of the underlying genetic and environmental factors driving the disorder, including low vitamin D levels, smoking, and obesity. Early and accurate diagnosis is essential and needs to be supported by diagnostic criteria, including imaging and spinal fluid abnormalities in patients with clinically isolated syndromes. Other demyelinating diseases are neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders (NMOSD), anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein antibody disease (MOGAD), and acute disseminated encephalomyelitis (ADEM).
