Heat and mass transfer are ubiquitous transport phenomena in many fields, from the natural environment and living organisms to the engineering process. This book focuses on the latest advances in applying fundamental heat and mass transfer theory and novel technologies for addressing a wide range of industrial problems of interest. This book will present readers with a recent analytical study, CFD modelling, and experimental investigations of heat and mass transfer topics associated with a variety of engineering disciplines including multiphase flow, nanofluids, porous media, battery thermal management, and engineering processes such as extractive distillation and arc welding. The book aims to provide new insights to understand the heat and mass transfer phenomena, serving as a platform for exchanging inspiring ideas and boosting further development of these disciplines.
Written by a group of top scientists and engineers in academic and industrial R&D, Lithium-Ion Batteries: Advanced Materials and Technologies gives a clear picture of the current status of these highly efficient batteries. Leading international specialists from universities, government laboratories, and the lithium-ion battery industry share th
The rise of renewable energy responds to global warming, necessitating reliable storage like batteries. Though frequent use can affect their lifespan, these have become smaller, simpler, and more adaptable. Recent technological progress has improved batteries' longevity and efficiency, with costs dropping due to mass production. This book examines different battery types, their evolution, and the cutting-edge materials enhancing their performance, particularly focusing on metal oxides in various battery technologies. Exploring advanced materials for batteries is not just a theoretical exercise but a practical journey into the future of energy. This book is an essential guide, tracing the evo...
Polymer Electrolytes and their Composites for Energy Storage/Conversion Devices presents a state-of-the-art overview of the research and development in the use of polymers as electrolyte materials for various applications. It covers types of polymer electrolytes, ion dynamics, and the role of dielectric parameters and a review of applications. Divided into two parts, the first part of the book focuses on the types of polymer electrolytes, ion dynamics, and the role of dielectric parameters, while the second part provides a critical review of applications based on polymer electrolytes and their composites. This book: Presents the fundamentals of polymer composites for energy storage/conversio...

This book covers both the fundamental and applied aspects of advanced Na-ion batteries (NIB) which have proven to be a potential challenger to Li-ion batteries. Both the chemistry and design of positive and negative electrode materials are examined. In NIB, the electrolyte is also a crucial part of the batteries and the recent research, showing a possible alternative to classical electrolytes – with the development of ionic liquid-based electrolytes – is also explored. Cycling performance in NIB is also strongly associated with the quality of the electrode-electrolyte interface, where electrolyte degradation takes place; thus, Na-ion Batteries details the recent achievements in furthering knowledge of this interface. Finally, as the ultimate goal is commercialization of this new electrical storage technology, the last chapters are dedicated to the industrial point of view, given by two startup companies, who developed two different NIB chemistries for complementary applications and markets.
This Advanced Study Institute on the topic of SOLID STATE MICROBATTERIES is the third and final institute on the general theme of a field of study now termed "SOLID STATE IONICS". The institute was held in Erice, Sicily, Italy, 3 - 15 July 1988. The objective was to assemble in one location individuals from industry and academia expert in the fields of microelectronics and solid state ionics to determine the feasibility of merging a solid state microbattery with microelectronic memory. Solid electrolytes are in principle amenable to vapor deposition, RF or DC sputtering, and other techniques used to fabricate microelectronic components. A solid state microbattery 1 1 mated on the same chip c...
