Acetonitrile
  • Language: en

Acetonitrile

Acetonitrile is a colourless volatile liquid with a sweet burnt taste and an odor similar to ether. This substance has widely been used as an organic solvent in extractive processes, and it is commonly applied to the development and manufacturing of cosmetics, pharmaceutical and agricultural products. Topics discussed in this book include the sorption of cellulose from aqueous acetonitrile solutions; the reactivity of acetonitrile towards palladium carboxylates; and photochemical experiments in acetonitrile.

Scientific Study from the year 2023 in the subject Biology - Zoology, grade: A, University of Ibadan, language: English, abstract: The aim of this study is to articulate and highlight the research on the forensic entomotoxicological evaluation of carrion insects found on rabbits euthanized with acetonitrile. Key findings, methods, and conclusions are to be presented. Two rabbits were used, one euthanized with acetonitrile and the other serving as a control experiment.

Acetonitrile (CH3CN) is formed from the thermal decomposition of a variety of cyclic, noncyclic, and polymeric nitrogen-containing compounds such as pyrrole and polyacrylonitrile. The pyrolysis and combustion of acetonitrile have been studied over the past 30 years to gain a more detailed understanding of the complex mechanisms involved in the release of nitrogen-containing compounds such as hydrogen cyanide (HCN) in fires and nitrogen oxides (NOx) in coal combustion. This report reviews the literature on the formation of HCN and NOx from the pyrolysis and combustion of acetonitrile and discusses the possible products found in an acetonitrile fire.
