Neuroscience in Medicine

Continuing progress has been made in understanding the brain at the molecular, anatomic, and physiological levels in the years following the "Decade of the Brain," with the results providing insight into the underlying basis of many neurological disease processes. In Neuroscience in Medicine, Third Edition, a distinguished panel of basic and clinical investigators, noted for their teaching excellence, provide thoroughly updated and revised chapters to reflect these remarkable advances. Designed specifically for medical students and allied health professionals, this up-to-date edition alternates scientific and clinical chapters that explain the basic science underlying neurological processes ...

The Rat Nervous System

The previous editions of The Rat Nervous System were indispensable guides for those working on the rat and mouse as experimental models. The fourth edition enhances this tradition, providing the latest information in the very active field of research on the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nervous system. The structure, connections, and function are explained in exquisite detail, making this an essential book for any graduate student or scientist working on the rat or mouse nervous system. - Completely revised and updated content throughout, with entirely new chapters added - Beautifully illustrated so that even difficult concepts are rendered comprehensible - Provides a fundamental analysis of the anatomy of all areas of the central and peripheral nervous systems, as well as an introduction to their functions - Appeals to researchers working on other species, including humans

Neural Circuits Revealed

Deciphering anatomical and functional maps in the nervous system is a main challenge for both clinical and basic neuroscience. Modern approaches to mark and manipulate neurons are bringing us closer than ever to better understand nervous system wiring diagrams. Here we present both original research and review material on current work in this area. Together, this eBook aims to provide a comprehensive snapshot of some of the tools and technologies currently available to investigate brain wiring and function, as well as discuss ongoing challenges the field will be confronted with in the future.

Chemistry and the Sense of Smell

“I cannot recommend this fascinating book highly enough.” –Simon Cotton, Chemistry & Industry, September 2014 “In conclusion: A comprehensive introduction to the world of odours, not only for chemists.” –review in German: Monika Paduch, Gefahrstoffe - Reinhaltung Luft, October 2014 A comprehensive overview of fragrance chemistry Fragrance materials are universal, from personal care products to household cleaners, laundry products, and more. Although many of the scents themselves are synthesized in a lab, the actual mechanism of odour has long baffled chemists who attempt to model it for research. In Chemistry and the Sense of Smell, industry chemist Charles S. Sell explores the c...
