A mineração é uma atividade que gera receitas para alavancar a economia de um país, mas também gera resíduos. Os resíduos são considerados uma ameaça para o meio ambiente, mas podem ser reaproveitados. A lama vermelha, resíduo gerado no beneficiamento da bauxita, é rica em ferro, alumínio, silício e tem potencial como fonte secundária de terras raras. Porém, há pouca informação sobre a presença de terras raras e radionuclídeos naturais nesse resíduo gerado no Brasil. Sendo assim, esse trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a concentração de radionuclídeos de origem natural (NORM) e terras raras em amostras de lama vermelha geradas nos Estados de São Paulo e do Pará. Para a avaliação dos NORMs da lama vermelha foi utilizada a técnica de Espectrometria gama e, para a quantificação das terras raras, as amostras de lama vermelha foram analisadas no ICP-AES (do inglês: Inductively Coupled Plasma – Atomic Emission Spectrometry) e ICP-MS (do inglês: Inductively Coupled Plasma – Mass Spectrometry).
