Property records and miscellaneous records of Albert Ernest Howard.
Albert S. Howard Papers (n.d., 1955). This collection consists of an undated letter from Thomas J. Howard to his son Albert. In the letter Thomas describes how the family came into possession of a pine knot with an embedded musket ball purchased near the Chickamauga battlefield. He goes on to describe his service in the Confederate army during the Civil War. The collection also included a note from Albert to the Montana Historical Society regarding the donation of the artifact. (SC 2673)
Louise E Howard, wife of organic farming pioneer Sir Albert Howard, wrote two books presented here based on the work of her husband. 'Sir Albert Howard in India' provides an overview of the Howards' work in India and the development of the Indore composting method. It is regarded as a classic study of effective Third World development work. 'The Earth's Green Carpet' is intended as a layman's introduction to the revolutionary work of the Howards, stressing the need for in-depth understanding of the interface between ecology, farming and human health.
