Les élites et la presse en Espagne et en Amérique latine
Depuis son apparition comme genre, au XVIIIe siècle, jusqu'à la fin des années 1930, la presse du monde ibérique et ibéro-américain subit un double processus d'expansion et de diversification. D'une part, les élites économiques, politiques et culturelles en font d'emblée un instrument de cohésion en la mettant au service de leurs stratégies et de leurs systèmes de valeurs. Mais d'autre part, bien que destinée tout d'abord à un public restreint, elle touche à partir des années 1850 un nombre grandissant de lecteurs et connaît un âge d'or après 1900. Sans cesser de servir les intérêts des notables et des partis (avec un impact croissant grâce à l'évolution de ses moyens techniques et financiers), elle gagne en variété et finalement s'affirme tout à la fois comme lieu central du débat social et comme facteur premier de diffusion des normes de comportement et mentalités des élites.
