In the spring of 1919, a young man assumes the alias of Marsden Fisher and travels to Maidenstone Hall, the Yorkshire country residence of the Earl and Countess of Scarborough, to tutor their daughter Alice. Searching for the truth about the death of his lover, Alice's late brother Simon, Marsden arrives to find that nothing is as he expected it to be. The house has been half destroyed by fire, the family's financial ruin is imminent, and only a small core of frightened but loyal servants remain to serve them. Alice and her twin sister Beatrice are feuding so terribly that they cannot be in the same room together. It is clear the family is hiding a terrible secret and the lies surrounding Simon's death convince Marsden to fear for his own safety. The longer he stays at Maidenstone, the more he fears the family will discover his true identity and his relationship with Simon, but Marsden cannot leave until he discovers the truth: about Simon, and the terrible screams that echo through the Hall at midnight.

Alison and Daniel become a couple, but Clare soon finds she cant keep away from him. Although Daniel loves both sisters, he knows he must choose, an act that may drive Alison and Clare apart forever. In this novel, twin sisters fall in love with the same man, an event that will shake their trust in each other and disrupt their lives for years to come.

Why we complain about communication overload even as we seek new ways to communicate. Our workdays are so filled with emails, instant messaging, and RSS feeds that we complain that there's not enough time to get our actual work done. At home, we are besieged by telephone calls on landlines and cell phones, the beeps that signal text messages, and work emails on our BlackBerrys. It's too much, we cry (or type) as we update our Facebook pages, compose a blog post, or check to see what Shaquille O'Neal has to say on Twitter. In Texture, Richard Harper asks why we seek out new ways of communicating even as we complain about communication overload. Harper describes the mistaken assumptions of developers that “more” is always better and argues that users prefer simpler technologies that allow them to create social bonds. Communication is not just the exchange of information. There is a texture to our communicative practices, manifest in the different means we choose to communicate (quick or slow, permanent or ephemeral).

Dodgems

Karl finds it hard to work at the funfair and keep up with his school work. Is there a way he can do both? The Tomato King Jenny and her family have moved to Spain so her Dad can find a job growing tomatoes. Will his tomatoes be good enough for the job? The Travellers series has the lowest reading level of all our reluctant reader collections - age 5-8. The stories are incredibly short - only 100-300 words each, and each book in the set of 14 titles contains 2-3 stories. Collecting the stories in this way gives more of an appearance of a 'real' book even though the stories are bite-sized, which helps to make the reader feel less self-conscious that they are reading something 'specialised'. The language level throughout this set of books is very low, and features such as short sentences, line spacing and illustrations help to create an encouraging experience for the reader.
