1 Million Roses for Angela Davis
A multidisciplinary appreciation of Angela Davis' years in the GDR "A Million Roses for Angela Davis" was the motto of a 1970-72 campaign in East Germany in support of US philosopher, communist and Black Power revolutionary Angela Davis, who at the time was being held on terrorism charges in California. The large-scale movement firmly anchored the "heroine of the other America" within the cultural memory of a now-vanished social utopia, which, after her acquittal, welcomed her as a state guest. For her part, Davis had hoped for an internationalist movement promoting a socialist, feminist, non-racist democracy. This moment of hope provides the historical starting point for this volume. It features archival materials, historical portraits of Davis by state painters of the GDR, new commissions and other works by contemporary artists focusing on the issues that Davis campaigned for. Texts explore how Davis' iconic image came to be inscribed within a global history of resistance, and introduce all of the participating artists.

Education, Space and Urban Planning
This book examines a range of practical developments that are happening in education as conducted in urban settings across different scales. It contains insights that draw upon the fields of urban planning/urbanism, geography, architecture, education and pedagogy. It brings together current thinking and practical experience from German and international perspectives. This discussion is organised in four segments: schools and the neighbourhood; education and the neighbourhood; education and the city and finally, education and the region. Contributors cover a wide range of contemporary and significant socio-political aspects of education over the last decade. Current urban planning does not fully connect our understanding in education with what we know in the spatial and planning sciences. Considering Space

Urban Design
In this basic textbook, prospective architects, urban and landscape planners receive assistance in working on urban development projects and designs. This edition has been expanded by two chapters on informal urban planning and regional urban development. The contents presented and their preparation are based on the design process in practice and embed it in a theoretical framework of necessary background knowledge. As an introduction, an overview of the understanding of the city, of urban structures and the laws governing them is given. In order to make the multi-layered structure of the city more comprehensible, it is broken down into different layers and building blocks. The approach to urban design is described using the "layer method" in the form of successive phases. Examples of urban development projects and competitions illustrate the individual design steps.
