Youth Cultures in a Globalized World
This book examines the relation between the phenomenon of globalization, changes in the lifeworld of young people and the development of specific youth cultures. It explores the social, political, economic and cultural impact of globalization on young people. Growing diversity in their lifeworlds, technological development, migration and the ubiquity of digital communication and representation of the world open up new forms of self-representation, networking and political expression, which are described and discussed in the book. Other topics are the impact of globalization on work and economy, global environmental issues such as climate change, political movements which put “nationalism first”, change of youth`s values and the significance of body, gender and beauty. The book highlights the challenges of young people in modern life, as well as the way in which they express themselves and engage in society – in culture, politics, work and social life.
Kant’s Theory of Value
In explicit form, Kant does not speak that much about values or goods. The reason for this is obvious: the concepts of ‘values’ and ‘goods’ are part of the eudaimonistic tradition, and he famously criticizes eudaimonism for its flawed ‘material’ approach to ethics. But he uses, on several occasions, the traditional teleological language of goods and values. Especially in the Groundwork and the Critique of Practical Reason, Kant develops crucial points on this conceptual basis. Furthermore, he implicitly discusses issues of conditional and unconditional values, subjective and objective values, aesthetic or economic values etc. In recent Kant scholarship, there has been a controversy on the question how moral and nonmoral values are related in Kant’s account of human dignity. This leads to the more fundamental problem if Kant should be seen as a prescriptvist (antirealist) or as subscribing to a more objective rational agency account of goods. This issue and several further questions are addressed in this volume.

Alltagsrassismus ist häufig subtiler Bestandteil von Handlungsroutinen und meist nicht sofort erkennbar; auch werden die Erfahrungen der Betroffenen oft verharmlost. Gerade dadurch schränkt Alltagsrassismus Teilhabechancen ein. Das Buch gibt einen Überblick über die verschiedenen Formen und die wichtigsten Erklärungsansätze. Die Problemanalysen erfolgen aus intersektionaler Perspektive und berücksichtigen die Verflechtung von Alltagsrassismus mit anderen Diskriminierungslinien. Dabei werden spezifische Formen von Alltagsrassismus in unterschiedlichen Institutionen und Bereichen betrachtet, z.B. in Schule und Hochschule, in der Gesundheitsversorgung, am Arbeitsmarkt und in der Polizeiarbeit.
