Pour retrouver les éléments de la vie du poète baroque Enriquez Gomez, il a fallu se plonger dans les archives de l'Inquisition espagnole. Y est révélée l'existence d'un de ces juifs convertis pris dans les réseaux du Saint-Office. Parti de sa Mancha natale à Bordeaux puis Rouen, il côtoie Calderon et Corneille. Reparti à Séville sous l'identité de don Fernando de Zarate, il meurt en prison.
