New Approaches to Classification and Diagnostic Prediction of Breast Cancers
Despite many years of translational research in breast cancer, very few new biomarkers have been implemented for clinical use beyond estrogen receptor, progesterone receptor, and HER2. The main reason is that many promising biomarkers are clinically validated but lack analytical and clinical utility. One explanation is that proper validation of the predictive ability of the biomarker in independent datasets, and with a pre-planned statistical analysis, is not always performed. Thus, there is a need to identify new biomarkers or new ways to subclassify breast cancer patients that are reproducible and easy to implement in the clinical setting but, more importantly, that improve patient’s outcomes.

Functional validation of genetic variants identified by next generation sequencing in malformations of cortical development
Malformations of cortical development (MCDs) result from a disruption in the process of the human brain cortex formation: currently, there are no pharmacological treatments for diffuse MCDs. Next-generation sequencing has accelerated the identification of MCDs causing genes: in some cases, functional studies are needed to clarify the role of genetic variants. The aim of this PhD project has been to apply a multidisciplinary approach to identify causative mutations in patients with MCDs, validate the pathogenic role of the identified mutations, and assess the effectiveness of novel in vitro treatment for mTOR pathway related MCDs.

The Martínez Carwash, a family business managed by Luis Martínez, has provided financial stability for the family during the past 28 years. At age 52, Luis was beginning to think about retiring and, consequently, about succession planning. Although none of his three sons were ready to take over the business, in Luis' view, each of the three were good men who embodied different capabilities and perspectives. La pilota valenciana
Des d'una pluralitat d'enfocaments en la investigació sobre la pilota valenciana, aquesta publicació contextualitza la realitat d'aquest esport. El llibre comença fent un recorregut per les diferents modalitats, analitzant la seua evolució històrica i les seues característiques actuals. Un altre apartat destacat és el binomi indissociable que forma el valencià i la pilota valenciana, que s'ha anat enriquint i modelant mútuament amb el pas del temps. Paral·lelament, resulten aspectes essencials de projecció de futur, la potenciació en l'àmbit educatiu i la divulgació i presència en els mitjans de comunicació. Un darrer aspecte considerat és la visió que es té del joc des de l'altre reducte geogràfic de la pràctica del joc a la Península, el País Basc. Es tracta doncs, d'un compendi de les característiques i circumstàncies de la pràctica del joc de pilota.
