Le punk rock étant basé sur trois accords, Kick Out The Jams, Motherfuckers! se devait de comporter trois parties. 1) Une longue introduction, suivie d’une chronologie, raconte la naissance du mouvement. 2) « De A comme Adverts, à Z comme Zip » passe en revue les groupes, les festivals (Mont-de-Marsan, Screen On The Green…), les lieux (The Roxy, 100 Club…), les fringues (combinaison R.A.F., hand me down…), les drogues, les figures tutélaires (MC5, Iggy Pop…), les personnages (Malcolm McLaren, Miss O.D.…), les films, les livres, les albums, les singles… et le reste. 3) Le dernier chapitre réunit les témoignages d’artistes fondateurs ou dont l’œuvre porte la marque indélébile du spirit of 77 (Colin Newman, James Chance, Daniel Darc, Tai-Luc…).
