Born in London at the start of the First World War, Bill Owen came from a working class background. These memoirs trace his early upbringing in a rugged but loving environment, his forays as a teenager to crooning with the big bands at Hammersmith Palais. His begininings in amateur theatricals led him to make his mark as a playwright, producer and director. But waiting for him in Yorkshire was his greatest triumph as the entertainer he's always been, "Compo".
This is a satirical take on contemporary American culture. While fictional and non-fictional elements are both in play, the book is vividly illustrated and photographed.
