Slash & Burn
Finnskogen -- directly translated as 'The Forest of the Finns' -- is a large, contiguous forest belt along the Norwegian-Swedish border, where farming families from Finland settled in the early 1600s. The immigrants -- called Forest Finns -- were slash-and-burn farmers. This ancient agricultural method yielded plentiful crops, but required large forested areas as the soil was quickly exhausted. The Forest Finns' understanding of nature was rooted in an Eastern shamanistic tradition, and they are often associated with magic and mystery. This photographic project draws on these beliefs while investigating what it means to be a Forest Finn today, some 400 years and twelve generations later.
Reveries of Home
Reveries of Home considers understandings of home in the world today and the means by which feelings of homeliness are secured. In particular, the volume explores the relationship between the phenomenon of globalisation and the ways in which home-making entails acts of practical and symbolic emplacement in landscapes felt to be meaningful and authentic. A series of case-studies, from Norway and West Africa, the mid-western USA, Egypt, Scotland and elsewhere, offer an illustrative array of homes made in rural communities and urban worksites, in personal life-histories and the policies of diasporic groups, in ceremonial revivals and mundane routines: in postcards, house furnishings, dreams, clothes and smells. Home-making appears as a kind of work; and it is ongoing, for ‘place’ and being ‘emplaced’ are not givens. Instead, home-making exists in time: in moments of individual and collective performance which are both mundane and memorial. Reveries of Home offers a set of cases and a set of arguments that reveal the close connections that remain between home and identity, even in a world of movement.

This history explores the lives and trials of the accused during Swedens seventeenth-century witch hunts. It may come as a surprise that Sweden had a witch hunt and that it was a precursor to Salems witch trials. Mrit Hansdotter and Karl Karlsson lived in an age of war, religious upheaval, and general discord. Their home, Karlsgrden, was the site of tremendous heartache, tragedy, love and survival. It overlooked the Ljusnan River on a pilgrimage road between Uppsala and Saint Olafs shrine in Norway. Mrit was sentenced to death, twice, for things she could not have done. Karl was sentenced to death, twice, for things he might have done. Mellom 1968 og 1976 samlet Asbj�rn Sollien, Birger Nesholen og Jan Erik Fosseidengen opplysninger om status og bestandsvariasjoner i fuglepopulasjonene i Grue kommune, Hedmark fylke helt tilbake fra 1885. Ved � kombinere sine egne observasjoner med opplysninger fra en rekke kunnskapsrike, lokale amat�rornitologer lagde de et hefte med en samlet oversikt over hele observasjonsmaterialet. Opprinnelig ble heftet trykket i 1000 eksemplarer. De er forlengst utsolgt, og det er ikke lengre mulig � trykke nye opplag.
