Travelling Knowledges

In the context of de/colonization, the boundary between an Aboriginal text and the analysis by a non-Aboriginal outsider poses particular challenges often constructed as unbridgeable. Eigenbrod argues that politically correct silence is not the answer but instead does a disservice to the literature that, like all literature, depends on being read, taught, and disseminated in various ways. In Travelling Knowledges, Eigenbrod suggests decolonizing strategies when approaching Aboriginal texts as an outsider and challenges conventional notions of expertise. She concludes that literatures of colonized peoples have to be read ethically, not only without colonial impositions of labels but also with the responsibility to read beyond the text or, in Lee Maracle’s words, to become “the architect of great social transformation.” Features the works of: Jeannette Armstrong (Okanagan), Louise Halfe (Cree), Margo Kane (Saulteaux/Cree), Maurice Kenny (Mohawk), Thomas King (Cherokee, living in Canada), Emma LaRocque (Cree/Metis), Lee Maracle (Sto:lo/Metis), Ruby Slipperjack (Anishnaabe), Lorne Simon (Miíkmaq), Richard Wagamese (Anishnaabe), and Emma Lee Warrior (Peigan).

Poetry. Translated from the Spanish by Daniel Borzutzky. First introduced to a U.S. audience by Cecilia Vicuna in 4 Mapuche Poets, Jaime Luis Huenun has become best-known through Daniel Borzutzky's vivid, memorable translations. In these recent poems--published in 2001 in Chile--Huenun invents a setting influenced by Melville's vivid scenarios, Coleridge's languid morbidity, andGeorge Trakl's silences and darkening seas. Borzutzky's English version is as haunted, brooding, and terrific as the original--Forrest Gander. PORT TRAKL is a world whose characters do not know which world they belong to, and which world they want to belong to; and as they attempt to depart one state of exile and enter into another, we get the sense that they will always be caught between worlds: between the real and the imaginary, between speech and silence, between poetry and the impossibility of hope--Daniel Borzutzky.

Fanon City Meu

Poetry. Latino/Latina Studies. Political poetry takes on a new definition in Jaime Huenn's FANON CITY MEU, where the voices of the colonized and their colonizers form a dissonant choir bearing testimony to the centuries of violence that have shaped Latin America. Inspired by Martinican intellectual Frantz Fanon, the book examines issues of race, colonialism, and revolution through a poetic discourse that only seems to find solace in irony. In this volume, Huenn, a renowned Chilean-Mapuche poet, draws parallels between the alienation of South American indigenous peoples and the experiences Fanon documented in the Caribbean and Algeria, breaching national and linguistic barriers that oft...

The purpose of the article is to concisely expose the historical development of the Faculty of Legal and Political Sciences of the National University of the Altiplano of Puno in its 164 years of creation (1856) and 38 years of reopening (1982), a plot that is projected in three centuries since the University of San Carlos de Puno was erected to the present, which is inserted in a context of search for quality, licensing and university accreditation, added to that, the Covid-19 pandemic. In that order, it tries to provoke a reflection through its academic, administrative and social projection bodies of a Faculty that has had a splendid trajectory in its formative work, and that now holds the accreditation that ensures levels of educational quality that are destined to remain for the forging of legal professionals with a broad and compromising perspective of justice.
