Ecological Reclamation in Canada at Century's Turn
Presents proceedings of a conference on the ecologically based reclamation and restoration of lands and waters disturbed by human activities. Topics of papers included restoration of mined lands, disturbed wetlands, soils disturbed by seeding and irrigation practices, lands and waters disturbed by removal and dumping of urban snow, and more general topics including effects of climate change over a major river basin and the role of environmental impact assessment in ecological restoration. The final paper is an evaluation of the ecological restoration situation in Canada. Although papers were presented from most parts of Canada, emphasis was on the Canadian prairies.

Biodiversity Initiatives
The purpose of this report is to inventory the involvement of agricultural producers in Canadian projects that address biodiversity initiatives. The inventory was compiled through a literature review and interview with program administrators and staff. Activities affecting ecosystem biodiversity, specific plant and animal species, and genetic resources are profiled, in addition to non-regulatory guidelines intended to assist producers implementing environmentally sustainable agricultural practices. Project descriptions include names of participants and contacts, along with relevant telephone numbers. Descriptions are arranged by categories: ecosystem-based projects (range and hay lands, croplands, land set-asides, wetlands, riparian areas, watersheds, woodlands; projects addressing such species as waterfowl, owls, hawks, deer, and fish; plant, crop, and livestock genetic diversity; and tools/information/awareness projects. Includes glossary and a directory of contact persons.
Handbook of Ecological Restoration
The two volumes of this handbook provide a comprehensive account of the emerging and vibrant science of the ecological restoration of both habitats and species. Ecological restoration aims to achieve complete structural and functional, self-maintaining biological integrity following disturbance. In practice, any theoretical model is modified by a number of economic, social and ecological constraints. Consequently, material that might be considered as rehabilitation, enhancement, reconstruction or re-creation is also included.
