Royston and District Writers Circle - 40th Anniversary Anthology
Once we were 30 years old, now we're 40 - oh my, how time flies when you are enjoying yourself and we certainly do that every month at Royston Writers' Circle.We don't write grand opuses or aspire to literary fame and fortune, but we do have fun with words. So, here is a collection of words from members' efforts over the last 10 years, most arising from exercises we set ourselves at the Circle. They are as varied as we are and as different as our individual imaginations.

Poetry is ecstatic speech. It is intended to be spoken aloud, not simply read silently from the page. D.H. Lawrence's poetry is ecstatic in nature, particularly his poems which are concerned with issues of human wholeness. The Author's vision for writing this book has been simply to introduce some of D.H. Lawrence's magnificent poems in such a way that others might come to love and appreciate them as deeply as he does. A zine honoring Carolyn Saulson, a Bay Area African American and Disability Rights community activist who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma, a rare blood cancer affecting African Americans at a rate twice that of the general population, on August 10, 2009. The zine features artwork, writing, collaging and photography by Carolyn, her daughter, award-winning horror author Sumiko Saulson, her granddaughter, beat poet Franchesca Saulson, and fellow disabled artists Kat Fury, Serena Toxicat, and Beth Johnson. It has facts and highlights about the rare blood cancer, about her fight against it, her life, her art, and her work with the communities she serves.

"Yes, but where?" asked the practical Lilian. "A house, a house, my kingdom for a house!" sang Leicester, and Fairy added: "I wish we could stay here all winter, and then I wouldn't have to go to school. I do abomerate school!" These were the four Dorrance children, and to anyone not already acquainted with them an introduction may be necessary.
