Author Georgia Kimmey outlines the economic factors that guided the growth of the Houston Metropolitan area (the hurricane that wiped out Galveston Island, the building of the Houston Ship Channel, the discovery of oil in Texas), and the impact of these events on the building of schools and the creation of suburbs.
