"The Holbeck catalogue is apparently the only recorded 17th-century Jesuit missionary library. There are of course several catalogues of Jesuit institutional libraries in France, Germany and elsewhere, but these are libraries solely for the clergy, and in some cases these libraries lost their Jesuit identity through being swamped by large gifts from outside sources. The Holbeck library, on the other hand, was just large enough to be a working tool, and compact enough to have a recognizable identity.
