Cornelius Henrici Hoen (Honius) and his Epistle on the Eucharist (1525)
This book is about Cornelius Henrici Hoen and his well-known treatise on the Eucharist, published in 1525, and answers questions like: Who actually was Hoen? What made him dissent from the current belief in transubstantiation? What were the sources of his dissent, and what was his relationship to famous contemporaries like Erasmus, Luther, Zwingli and Bucer? And how influential has his treatise been? After a more detailed portrait of Hoen’s life, the chapters on the origins of his ideas establish that Hoen was not only dependent on Erasmus and Luther, but actually revived age-old heretical arguments, first proposed in the high Middle Ages and later defended by Hus and Wyclif, and popularized by Lollards and Hussites in the late medieval Burgundian Netherlands. The book also describes Hoen’s influence on Reformation thought, and contains an edition of the original Latin text and of a contemporary German translation.
Reformed Orthodoxy and Philosophy, 1625–1750
This book examines the thinking of several Reformed theologians on theological issues that are, historically or by content, related to philosophy. Three Dutch authors from successive generations are considered in particular: Gisbertus Voetius (1589-1676), Petrus van Mastricht (1630-1706), and Anthonius Driessen (1684-1748). A diversity of issues in Christian doctrine is discussed. These include the relationship between theology and philosophy, creation, Divine providence, the human being, and Divine and natural law. By reconstructing the views of these three theologians, this book highlights similarities and differences within Reformed orthodoxy, both in doctrine and in relation to philosophy. The changes that thus become visible also suggest that biblical Christianity outlives the philosophical apparatus by whose assistence it is explained.

On the Church
This anthology of key essays and speeches presents Kuyper’s thoughts on the church. Included are selections from Kuyper’s doctoral dissertation on the theology of John Calvin and John a Lasco; various treatises and sermons such as the Twofold Fatherland and Address on Missions; and selections from Kuyper’s larger works on the church, such as Kuyper’s commentary on the Heidelberg Catechism. The centerpiece will be Kuyper’s programmatic statement Tract on the Reformation of the Churches, which takes a unique approach to ecclesiology.
