Maraini's career as an ethnologist, photographer, filmmaker, mountaineer, writer and professor spans a period of more than 60 years. Perhaps best known for his work on Tibet and Japan, Maraini has extensively photographed the Karakoram and Hindu Kush mountain ranges of central Asia, Southeast Asia and the south of his native Italy.
