WOMEN TRANSFORM EDUCATION - School research, educational experiences - The book offers an interesting collection of essays on the role of women in the field of education. These essays show how educational practices conducted by women have enriched and transformed the field of education. The essays point out that this is not a new phenomenon since women have always been educators. The authors approach the topic based on these three fundamental themes: Qualitative research, Theory and Educational experiences.
Síntesis de los resultados alcanzados por los proyectos de investigación promovidos o financiados por la Administración educativa.

First published in 1970, previous edition in 1985. MCM5 is enlarged and restructured to keep pace with new developments and technology. Users must have knowledge of the fundamentals of microbiology and possess basic laboratory skills. Operational and organizational chapters address topics ranging from collecting and managing clinical specimens to selecting the best methodological approach for determining strain identity. Subsequent chapters deal with specific microorganisms as etiologic agents and with the clinical microbiologic laboratory in various treatment and research functions. Member price, $64. A repertoire of 10 TLRs mediate the first response to all microbes that infect mammals. They are the long sought receptors for a wide range of microbial products. Notable examples include TLR4 which recognizes LPS from gram negative bacteria, TLR3 which recognizes viral double-stranded RNA and TLR9 which recognizes CpG DNA motifs, found commonly in both viruses and bacteria. TLRs are increasingly being implicated in both infectious and inflammatory diseases, notable examples being sepsis, inflammatory bowel disease, atherosclerosis and asthma. There is therefore great interest in targeting TLRs therapeutically since blocking TLRs will result in a decrease in the production of inflammatory mediators such as TNF. This volume covers our current understanding of TLRs, and their role in inflammation. Given the primacy of TLRs in the inflammatory process and their emerging role in inflammatory diseases the book is of great interest to researchers working in inflammation and immunology.
Luke O'Neill and Andrew Bowie bring together a collection of standard and advanced methods for measuring these powerful agents. Their readily reproducible techniques range from the assay of interleukin protein and mRNA-using ELISA, FACS, and RT-PCR-to the study of interleukin signal transduction. Newer techniques are also covered, including the analysis of interleukin gene polymorphisms and the use of cDNA microarrays. Many of the assays are geared to specific pathologies, including breast cancer, depression, psoriasis, Grave's disease, migraine, and myocardial infarction. Comprehensive and highly practical, Interleukin Protocols offers biomedical investigators a stellar collection of all the major techniques needed to analyze the role of interleukins in disease, to improve diagnosis, and to foster the rapid emergence of new and more powerful therapeutics.
The seventeenth century has been characterized as "Latin America's forgotten century." This landmark work, originally published in 1973, attempted to fill the vacuum in knowledge by providing an account of the first great colonial cycle in Spanish Central America. The colonial Spanish society of the sixteenth century was very different from that described in the eighteenth century. What happened in the Latin American colonies between the first conquests, the seizure of long-accumulated Indian wealth, the first silver booms, and the period of modern raw material supply? How did Latin America move from one stage to the other? What were these intermediate economic stages, and what effect did th...
