Šibenik Alternating Currents is the second part of the “Publishing Acts” series. It unites a set of collaboratively produced, openended socio-political imaginaries about the Croatian city Šibenik re-narrating its past, present and future. It also is a critical reflection on prevailing processes, methods and frames for architectural knowledge production —specifically on architectural publishing: Publishing here is understood as a processual device evoking and framing a social and discursive sphere for multivocal negotiation, self-reflexive sensemaking, and differentiated co-production. It is targeted at opening up conceptual and concrete counter-spaces beyond the “existing”, beyond what is currently broadly embodied and materialized.
Fables & Constructions
A concrete pontoon, a landfill, or a whole city made of plants: unusual as they may be, these are just a few of the narrators of this book. An Introduction to Riemannian Geometry
Unlike many other texts on differential geometry, this textbook also offers interesting applications to geometric mechanics and general relativity. The first part is a concise and self-contained introduction to the basics of manifolds, differential forms, metrics and curvature. The second part studies applications to mechanics and relativity including the proofs of the Hawking and Penrose singularity theorems. It can be independently used for one-semester courses in either of these subjects. The main ideas are illustrated and further developed by numerous examples and over 300 exercises. New Perfume Handbook
The first edition of this unique book established itself as an unparalleled source of information on perfume. Although it is primarily aimed at perfumers and others in the perfume industry, it has also found substantial sales among a wide range of others including aromatherapists, botanists, and many others who wanted to learn more about this faceted subject. The new edition is now aimed squarely at perfumery marketing specialists and others in the industry world-wide and covers in particular the needs of publicity/advertising teams and journalists, together with sales people and consultants at the counters who like to have a wide range of information at their fingertips. Changes include: an expansion of the number of profiles of the perfume houses, and of the 50 or so new perfumes worthy of record which have been launched since the previous edition. Weaponized Architecture
Research informs the development of a project which, rather than defusing these characteristics, attempts to integrate them within the scene of a political struggle. The proposed project dramatizes, through its architecture, a Palestinian disobedience to the colonial legislation imposed on its legal territory. In fact, the State of Israel masters the elaboration of territorial and architectural colonial apparatuses that act directly on Palestinian daily lives. In this regard, it is crucial to observe that 63% of the West Bank is under total control of the Israeli Defense Forces in regards to security, movement, planning and construction. Weaponized Architecture is thus manifested as a Palestinian shelter, with an associated agricultural platform, which expresses its illegality through its architectural vocabulary.
The Ethics of a Potential Urbanism
The Ethics of a Potential Urbanism explores the possible and potential relevance of Giorgio Agamben’s political thoughts and writings for the theory and the practice of architecture and urban design. It sketches out the potentiality of Agamben’s politics, which can affect change in current architectural and design discourses. The book investigates the possibility of an inoperative architecture, as an ethical shift for a different practice, just a little bit different, but able to deactivate the sociospatial dispositive and mobilize a new theory and a new project for the urban now to come. This particular reading from Agamben’s oeuvre suggests a destituent mode of both thinking and practicing of architecture and urbanism that could possibly redeem them from their social emptiness, cultural irrelevance, economic reductionism and proto-avant-garde extravagance, contributing to a renewed critical ‘encounter’ with architecture’s aesthetic-political function.

Post-Digital Print
Digital technology is now a normal part of everyday life. The mutation of music and film into bits and bytes, downloads and streams is now taken for granted. For the world of book and magazine publishing however, this transformation has only just begun. Still, the vision of this transformation is far from new. For more than a century now, avant-garde artists, activists and technologists have been anticipating the development of networked and electronic publishing. Although in hindsight the reports of the death of paper were greatly exaggerated, electronic publishing has now certainly become a reality. How will the analog and the digital coexist in the post-digital age of publishing? How will they transition, mix and cross over? In this book, Alessandro Ludovico rereads the history of the avant-garde arts as a prehistory of cutting through the so-called dichotomy between paper and electronics. Ludovico is the editor and publisher of Neural, a magazine for critical digital culture and media arts. For more than 20 years now, he has been working at the cutting edge (and the outer fringes) of both print publishing and politically engaged digital art.

Motel Trogir
Opening a long-closed window into the 1960s Communist Eastern Bloc, Motel Trogir explores the history and planning culture that produced a modernist utopian architecture in Yugoslavia. Conceived and built in 1965 by renowned architect Ivan Viti during a period of increased transit tourism, the motel stands by a highway on the Dalmatian coast. A fine example of 20th-century modernism, the motel is in a derelict state today due to unresolved property issues, and stands as a reminder of the former political economy. In 2013, to help rescue the buildings from development, Loose Associations, an association for contemporary artistic practices, argued for protection of the motel as a valuable architectural work. In this modest publication, ample historical images and informative texts tell the story of 1960s socialist Yugoslavia, its tourist architecture and planning as reflected in Vitic's Adriatic motels, and the turbulent decades that have followed as the architectural culture is caught between the socialist agenda and market forces.
