It is refreshing to find a contemporary Muslim scholar who, in addition to undertaking a realistic analysis of why the Muslim world has fallen so low, actually offers achievable and practical solutions. Dr. al Faruqi was such a scholar, and it is our great misfortune that he and his wife were murdered during the prime of their lives. It is my hope that this valuable work will inspire others to study and use al Faruqi's ideas and proposals to solve our many problems. I would like to thank Dr. Shafiq for bringing this great Muslim scholar and individual to our attention once again.

Using Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to study the concentration of major air pollutants in Lahore City of Pakistan
Lahore city is very highly polluted. The major causes of which are alarmingly increasing number of motor vehicles and a large number of industries. The research highlights the spatio-temporal patterns of sample pollutants including Sulfur dioxide, Oxides of Nitrogen, Carbon monoxide Ozone, and Particulate matter. The concentrations of these pollutants have been monitored at ten sample sites in the city. The effects of increasing air pollution on population of study area have been studied using questionnaire techniques.
Poisoned Land
The inspiration behind Poisoned Land: Vegetation of Disturbed and Polluted Areas in Pakistan arose from the dire situation of the world’s decaying environment and how pollution is impacting plants. Anthropological activities are altering the current status of flora and fauna of Pakistan. The alarming changes in nature, with its ensuing structure and composition of vegetation due to environmental pollution brought about the research for this book, as there is scant literature on the impact of pollution on plant communities. The description of nature, and the structure and composition of vegetation is very complex. Ever-increasing pollutants are leading to an unhealthy environment for living organisms, calling for there to be changes toward a healthier environment.
Baseline Air Quality of Azad Jammu and Kashmir
The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) environmental profiling project has been completed aiming at a healthy environment for the citizens of AJK. The Environmental Protection Agency of AJK has been providing the logistical support and moblity etc. throughout the sampling period. In modern days, Nanotechnology is in wide use in various domains of scientific science. It deals with the Nanoparticles having a size of 1-100 nm in one dimension used significantly concerning medical chemistry, atomic physics, among other scientific disciplines. The synthesis of nanomaterials is of current interest due to their wide variety of applications in fields such as electronics, photonics, catalysis, medicine, etc. The applications of nanotechnology are growing owing to the fact that matter at the nanometer scale has different properties as compared with the bulk state. For this reason, many research groups around the world are trying new methods of synthesis of different materials at the nanoscale. Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) have been the matters of researchers due to their unique properties (e.g. size and shape depending optical, antimicrobial, and electrical properties).
Spatial Patterns of Noise Pollution and its Effects in Lahore City
Lahore is one of the cities most effected by uncontrolled noise pollution in Pakistan. The most important factor of noise pollution is the road traffic. The main objective of this study was to analyze and evaluate road traffic noise and to measure its effects on the population of Lahore city. A weighting sound level meter was used in the study. All the measurements were taken at a height of about 1.2 m from the ground at 56 sample sites. The spatial noise pattern was shown in maps. These were also drawn to show buffers dividing areas into moderate, high and extremely high risk zones in accordance with noise risk levels. The maps were additionally divided in day and night time maps, each with graduated symbols. The main day-night values were exceeding the permissible environmental standards used in Pakistan. Therefore, a survey was conducted to study the diseases caused by noise pollution in the areas with highest noise levels.
