Concepciones de territorio en profesionales de las ciencias de la Tierra
Este libro es producto de una investigación doctoral que se pregunta cuáles son las concepciones de territorio de los profesores ingenieros profesionales de las ciencias de la Tierra (IPTC) que actúan como profesores formadores de profesionales de las ciencias de la Tierra (PCT) en universidades ubicadas en dos contextos culturalmente diferenciados. Se elabora una interpretación de las concepciones de territorio a partir de las narrativas construidas mediante la interpretación de entrevistas semiestructuradas.
Enfoques y concepciones de territorio
En este libro se abordan, entre otros temas, los elementos sustanciales del territorio, su significado asociado a la cultura y las consideraciones de este concepto, entendido como dinámico y polisémico. El autor retoma las ideas de Jean Gottmann, quien manifiesta que la noción de territorio se discutía ya en el siglo XV, desde una relación con la esfera política, la cual correspondía con la supremacía sobre las tierras y la dominación de una determinada área.

Defending the Land of the Jaguar
Mexican conservationists have sometimes observed that it is difficult to find a country less interested in the conservation of its natural resources than is Mexico. Yet, despite a long history dedicated to the pursuit of development regardless of its environmental consequences, Mexico has an equally long, though much less developed and appreciated, tradition of environmental conservation. Lane Simonian here offers the first panoramic history of conservation in Mexico from pre-contact times to the current Mexican environmental movement. He explores the origins of conservation and environmental concerns in Mexico, the philosophies and endeavors of Mexican conservationists, and the enactment of important conservation laws and programs. Land market distortions and aggregate agricultural productivity: Evidence from Guatemala
Farm size and land allocation are important factors in explaining lagging agricultural productivity in developing countries. This paper examines the effect of land market imperfections on land allocation across farmers and aggregate agricultural productivity. We develop a theoretical framework to model the optimal size distribution of farms and assess to what extent market imperfections can explain non-optimal land allocation and output in-efficiency. We measure these distortions for the case of Guatemala using agricultural census microdata. We find that due to land market imperfections aggregate output is 19% below its efficient level for both maize and beans and 31% below for coffee, which are three major crops produced nationwide. The regions with higher distortions show a higher dispersion in land prices and less active rental markets. We also find that the degree of land market distortions across locations co-variate with road accessibility and ethnicity and, in a lower extent, with education.
Knowledge Representation
Knowledge representation is fundamental to the study of mind. All theories of psychological processing are rooted in assumptions about how information is stored. These assumptions, in turn, influence the explanatory power of theories. This book fills a gap in the existing literature by providing an overview of types of knowledge representation techniques and their use in cognitive models. Organized around types of representations, this book begins with a discussion of the foundations of knowledge representation, then presents discussions of different ways that knowledge representation has been used. Both symbolic and connectionist approaches to representation are discussed and a set of recommendations about the way representations should be used is presented. This work can be used as the basis for a course on knowledge representation or can be read independently. It will be useful to students of psychology as well as people in related disciplines--computer science, philosophy, anthropology, and linguistics--who want an introduction to techniques for knowledge representation.
