Health Promotion at School
For decades the health of children and adolescents has been a topic of interest in all parts of Europe. And there is quite a consensus that schools are the most appropriate setting to promote health. Childhood and adolescence constitute key stages for learning and adopting a health-related and active lifestyle which includes physical activity and sports. The book describes a new approach to enhance students' health awareness through experimental learning settings in P.E. class, cross-subject teaching, and project work. Teaching health topics requires a pedagogical and didactical framework based on the concept of health literacy and interdisciplinary research discussed by the authors. Teaching examples to improve students' health knowledge, health competencies and skills as well as health behaviour and habits at school implicates a new teaching structure presented in the book.
Explanation Within the Bounds of Religion
This book deals with the question of whether religious worldviews fulfil an explanatory function in the lives of believers. After rebutting some common objections to this claim, the author proposes to understand the explanatory nature of religious belief along the lines of inference to the best explanation. This proposal is qualified in view of the peculiar nature of religious belief: It is stressed that the type of explanation concerned occurs within the bounds of religion alone, and loses its sense apart from the religious form of life. In unfolding his argument, the author draws heavily on ideas of explanation developed in the philosophy of science, pointing to differences and comparisons between religious and scientific explanations. The author concludes by considering some specific things that theism explains.
Kritische Spielsituationen im Tennis und deren Bewältigung
Die vorliegende Arbeit untersucht, wie Tennisspieler mit kritischen Spielsituationen umgehen. Im Tenniswettkampf sind Spieler zu beobachten, die gerade in kritischen Spielsituationen erfolgreich sind und daher als psychisch stark eingeschätzt werden, während andere die Punkte in diesen Spielsituationen verlieren. Was beinhaltet ein Bewältigen bzw. Nicht-Bewältigen stressrelevanter Spielsituationen? Die Bearbeitung dieser Frage erfolgt zum einen auf der Grundlage eines heuristischen Modells zur Entstehung und Bewältigung kritischer Spielsituationen und zum anderen auf der mündlichen Befragung von 30 Tennisspielern und Tennisspielerinnen der deutschen Rangliste. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass abhängig von der Art der kritischen Spielsituation verschiedene stressspezifische Bewältigungsstrategien eingesetzt werden, die in unterschiedlichem Maße dazu beitragen, in den einzelnen kritischen Spielsituationen erfolgreich zu sein.
