Evaluating Health Risks
A major problem in health economics is how to give a value to changes in health. This is the first book to present a comprehensive survey of the money measures that are used in such evaluations. The author defines the properties of these money measures, examining them in both a certain and a risky world. He evaluates available empirical approaches for the assessment of the value of health changes, and considers measures such as quality-adjusted life years (QALYS) and health-years equivalents (HYES).

The Merits of Regional Cooperation

Health Research in Developing Countries
The health of the people in the developing world is a major concern of Tropical Medical Societies of the temperate zones. Tropical medicine as an applied science has been dealing mainly with «tropical diseases.» But health and diseases have many dimensions, some of which so far have not found sufficient attention of the scientific world, e.g. planning of adequate health care, medical-anthropological and socio-cultural factors operating between a health care system and the populations to be served, or the very basic problem of nutrition and its interaction with health and development. Therefore, it was felt that European tropical societies should once join forces and organize a meeting for the discussion of particularly those issues. The topics were: Health care utilization, coverage and cost of primary care, medical pluralism and concepts of diseases in traditional societies, which all are linked at the level of the provider of primary care and his clientel. Concepts of nutrition particularly during child bearing are the root of many health problems and interact with certain diarroeal and other infectious diseases.
Renewable Energies for Sustainable Development
In the current scenario in which climate change dominates our lives and in which we all need to combat and drastically reduce the emission of greenhouse gases, renewable energies play key roles as present and future energy sources. Renewable energies vary across a wide range, and therefore, there are related studies for each type of energy. This Special Issue is composed of studies integrating the latest research innovations and knowledge focused on all types of renewable energy: onshore and offshore wind, photovoltaic, solar, biomass, geothermal, waves, tides, hydro, etc. Authors were invited submit review and research papers focused on energy resource estimation, all types of TRL converters, civil infrastructure, electrical connection, environmental studies, licensing and development of facilities, construction, operation and maintenance, mechanical and structural analysis, new materials for these facilities, etc. Analyses of a combination of several renewable energies as well as storage systems to progress the development of these sustainable energies were welcomed.
