Kapp is writing that when he was in Philadelphia he was informed by Mr. G. Garesche, son in law of the late P.S. Du Ponceau, that Fairlie is the son of the late Major Fairlie, formerly one of General Steuben's former aides-de camp. Since he is preparing a biography of Baron von Steuben he is wondering if Fairlie would be willing to share any letters or documents he might have. Letter is signed Frederick Kapp. On verso of letter, Kapp lists several personal references.
