West German Industry and the Challenge of the Nazi Past
In this groundbreaking study, S. Jonathan Wiesen explores how West German business leaders remade and marketed their public image in the aftermath of World War II and the Holocaust. He challenges assumptions that West Germans - and industrialists in particular - were silent about the recent past during the years of denazification and reconstruction, revealing how German business leaders attempted to absolve themselves of responsibility for Nazi crimes while recasting themselves as socially and culturally engaged public figures. Through case studies of individual firms such as Siemens and Krupp, Wiesen depicts corporate publicity as a telling example of postwar selective memory.
Communicating the News in Early Modern Europe
This history of early modern news focuses on news itself rather than specific material forms. Centering on movement through different media, time, and place, it makes the case for a truly comparative, pan-European history of news. After the Introduction, the second section, News Moves, explores how we think about and research news culture and news communication, demonstrating movement is more important than static forms. The third, News Sings, focuses on news ballads, comparing actors, publics, music, and soundscapes of ballad singing in several European cities, highlighting the central role of immaterial elements, such as sound, music and voice. The fourth, News Counts, argues that seeing news the way a machine might read it-through its metadata-is one way of moving beyond form, allowing us to find surprising commonalities in news cultures which differ greatly in both time and place.

Hans-Walter Herrmann, Armin Heinen, Klaus Altmeyer); und III. Geschichte und Burschenschaft (u.a. Klaus Malettke, Karl Heinrich Kruger, Peter Kaupp) - gewidmet, mit denen sich Fritz Hellwig immer wieder selbst in Wort und Schrift befasst hat oder die sein Interesse finden durften. Abgerundet wird der Sammelband mit einer biographischen Skizze Fritz Hellwigs, mit dem Wiederabdruck seines Artikels "Die Entwicklung der Europaischen Gemeinschaft" im ?Handbuch der Deutschen Burschenschaft' sowie seiner Rede, die er zum 100. Geburtstag Ludwig Erhards im Jahre 1997 gehalten hat.
