Valérie Belin: Complete Work
Valérie Belins photographs avoid simple representation or description, even though she often chooses to photograph simple objects, such as glasses, silverware, Venetian mirrors, cars, or animal carcasses. Instead she is attempting to unveil the very essence of her subjects and to delve into the deepest secrets of things, of matter and of light, almost independent of the objects themselves. This comprehensive retrospective of Belins work also includes all her other suites her questioning of corporeality in her explicit studies of bodybuilders; the series of Moroccan brides which broach complex issues of identity and representation; and her investigations of hybrid entities, such as transsexuals, Michael Jackson look-alikes and the mannequins in shop windows.

Alain Biltereyst
The plywood paintings series refer to the Geometric Abstraction and Hard-Edge paintings of the sixties (Josef Albers, Kenneth Noland, Frank Stella). If these movements were about pure painting, A.T. Biltereyst's abstractions evoke references to contemporary everyday life. The raw wood on which he works, the deliberate errors in the geometric shapes and the inaccuracies created while painting refer to graffiti art dynamics. With a background in graphic design, Biltereyst is fascinated by the vividness and struggle of commercial and other signs in the public arena. A poster, a design on a truck, logos, ads out in the street,... all these signs are part of an everyday idiom, blurring the lines between culture and subculture. The work is modest and usually not very large. "It is my intention to make poetic work and to be as simple as possible." Exhibition: Galerie Van der Mieden, Antwerp, Belgium (06.11.2016-06.12.2016).
Hands on
Published to accompany the exhibition Bernard Frize: Hands On at the Ikon Gallery, 3 June - 20 July 2003, this is the most comprehensive exhibition of work by French artist Bernard Frize in the UK to date. Combining recent painting with rarely seen sculpture and photography, audiences will have an opportunity to see the impressive stylistic and technical diversity of his work. Frize has likened his various ways of making work to recipes. More often than not he chooses paint as his main ingredient and then it becomes a question of process and editing. Frize makes crucial decisions as to how to proceed with his painting and the rest is virtually automatic. The repetition with which paint is applied to the canvas leaves no room for any new inspiration that will significantly effect the outcome.
Barthélémy-Griño architectes
Philippe Barthélémy from France and Sylvia Griño from Uruguay have been projecting buildings in France, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Brazil and the Far East for more than 20 years. Amongst their most prominent projects are a number of boutiques for the designer of luxury gifts and accessories, Louis Vuitton, in Germany, Taiwan, Thailand, Japan, South Korea and Brazil. In addition to other awards, Barthélémy-Griño were nominated for Le Moniteur’s renowned Equerre d’argent prize for their sports centre in Nanterre with its innovative wood construction.
