Celeste Coltellini war im späten 18. Jahrhundert eine der gefragtesten und bekanntesten Sängerinnen der Opera buffa in Europa. Selbst aus dem gehobenen bürgerlich-intellektuellen Milieu stammend war sie 13 Jahre als Primadonna an verschiedenen europäischen Theatern engagiert, bevor sie 1792 in die wohlhabende neapolitanisch-schweizerische Familie Meuricoffre einheiratete. Illustre Persönlichkeiten der Zeit standen mit ihr in Kontakt und trafen sich in ihrem Salon. Carola Bebermeier setzt sich theoretisch und praktisch mit den Herausforderungen und Fragestellungen der Frauenbiographik auseinander. Als zentrale Quelle dienen ihr die zehn Skizzenbücher Celeste Coltellinis, die deren gleichwertige zeichnerische Begabung erkennen lassen. Mit einem eigenen biographischen Konzept gelingt es der Autorin, Erkenntnisse der neueren Biographikforschung in einer narrativen Form fruchtbar zu machen.

Long before the mid-nineteenth century, thousands of people were frequently moving between North America - specifically, the United States and British North America - and Leghorn, Genoa, Naples, Rome, Sicily, Piedmont, Lombardy, Venice, and Trieste. Predominantly traders, sailors, transient workers, Catholic priests, and seminarians, this group relied on the exchange of goods across the Atlantic to solidify transatlantic relations; during this period, stories about the New World passed between travellers through word of mouth and letter writing. Blurred Nationalities across the North Atlantic challenges the idea that national origin - for instance, Italianness - constitutes the only significant feature of a group's identity, revealing instead the multifaceted personalities of the people involved in these exchanges.
