Theology, Fantasy, and the Imagination
Theology, Fantasy, and the Imagination offers analyses of the theological, philosophical, and religious imagination found in fantasy literature, the theological imagination, and table-top games. Part I offers an invocation to the study through a theological reflection of the “old magic.” Part II analyzes classical Christian fantasy—ranging from dogmatic theological reflection on the fantastic imagination to analyses of C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien. Part III analyzes the post-Christian turn in fantasy after about 1960 through today—featuring methodological, theological, and philosophical essays that reflect a movement beyond Christianity in the fantasy literature and writings of Rabbi Shagar, Ursula le Guin, Terry Pratchett, Robert Jordan and David Eddings, and Brandon Sanderson and Orson Scott Card. Part IV closes with two analyses of the religious and philosophical dimensions of table-top games, including Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: the Gathering. Ceau
Nicolae Ceaucescu was Romanias leader between 1965 and December 1989, assisted by his wife Elena. As a result of the personality cult characteristic of any dictatorship, within this period hundreds of portraits of Elena and Nicolae were realized by artists all over the country. CEAU is an art book that presents a selection of these portraits preserved in the storage vaults of the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest. These artworks had either been commissioned by a variety of political bodies within the Socialist Republic of Romania or had been offered to the Ministry of Culture as a gift by the artists themselves before the fall of the Ceaucescu regime. A transcript of the trial of Nicolae and Elena Ceaucescu on the 25th December 1989 rounds off the publication.

Sylvia Sleigh
Although often overlooked in contemporary art, Welsh-born realist painter Sylvia Sleigh (1916-2010) became an important part of New York's feminist art scene in the 1960s and beyond. She was particularly well known for her explicit paintings of male nudes, which challenged the tradition of male artists painting female subjects as objects of desire. Despite a 1953 solo exhibition at Kensington Art Gallery, Sleigh received little public recognition until her move to New York in the 1960s. There she and her husband, the art critic and Guggenheim curator Lawrence Alloway, created a home that welcomed artists, writers and musicians, many of whom Sleigh painted. These works radiate a sense of emotional attachment between the artist and her sitters, presenting an array of significant cultural figures of the time, such as Eleanor Antin, Nancy Spero, Agnes Denes and Mary Beth Edelson. This book is Sleigh's first retrospective monograph.
Are You a Fool, Benucio?
From racial assimilation to family vendettas, "Are You a Fool, Benucio?" is the American dream story of Benucio "Ben" Visconti, a boy who emigrated from Italy to America with his family in the 1920s. Born in Lucania, Italy, six-year-old Ben came to the United States with his family in 1928 in the wake of a vicious rivalry with the Scropino family that would span the seas, involving the Mafia and lasting for decades. He spent his boyhood yearning to be accepted as an American, and he proved his devotion to his new home when the United States joined World War II after the attack on Pearl Harbor; Ben was one of 500,000 Italian Americans who answered the call to defend their country. From his service in World War II to becoming a lawyer and finding the love of his life, Visconti's is a story defined by courage, loyalty, and family bonds. Spanning four generations, "Are You a Fool, Benucio?" vividly portrays the Visconti family's struggle to overcome racial bias, the Great Depression, and gang mentality as they try to remain true to their Italian roots and pursue the American dream.

Columbus Italians
At the beginning of the last century, there were just over 11,000 Italians in Ohio. While many of the earliest immigrants settled along Lake Erie, a growing number ventured south to the state capital, a city located at the confluence of the Scioto and Olentangy Rivers and named for a famed Italian explorer. Importing the rich traditions of the old country, Columbus Italian families stayed close to each other, living in great concentrations on St. Clair Avenue and in the Flytown and Bottoms neighborhoods, Grandview Heights, Marble Cliff, and San Margherita. The generations of families who once called these Italian enclaves home have now largely dispersed but still form a community--colorful, hardworking, and fiercely loyal--bonded by the three most basic principles of Italian culture and the theme of the Columbus Italian Festival: "Faith, Family, and Friends."
The Cancer Within
The Cancer Within examines cervical cancer in Romania as a point of entry into an anthropological reflection on contemporary health care. Cervical cancer prevention reveals the inner workings of emerging post-communist medicine, which aligns the state and the market, public and private health care providers, policy makers, and ordinary women. Fashioned by patriarchal relations, lived religion, and the historical trauma of pronatalism, Romanian women’s responses to reproductive medicine and cervical cancer prevention are complicated by neoliberal reforms to medical care. Cervical cancer prevention – and especially the HPV vaccination – provided Romanians a legitimate instance to express their conflicting views of post-communist medicine. What sets Romania apart is that pronatalism, patriarchy, lived religion, medical reforms, and moral contestation of preventive medicine bring into line systemic contingencies that expose the historical, social, and cultural trajectories of cervical cancer.
