Principals in Succession

Contributors to this volume examine structures and processes that school boards have in place directly relating to the process of principal or vice-principal succession. As well, they consider the effect that these structures and processes have upon staff and administrators themselves. These contributors investigate policies, procedures and practices that school boards employ in terms of leadership succession, and explore implications of these constructs for the sustainability of school improvement. This volume presents an overview of the process of principal or vice-principal succession, descriptions of school district practices surrounding this process and discussions regarding how success...

Electrothermics

This book concerns the analysis and design of induction heating of poor electrical conduction materials. Some innovating applications such as inductive plasma installation or transformers, thermo inductive non-destructive testing and carbon-reinforced composite materials heating are studied. Analytical, semi-analytical and numerical models are combined to obtain the best modeling technique for each case. Each model has been tested with experimental results and validated. The principal aspects of a computational package to solve these kinds of coupled problems are described. In the first chapter, the mathematical tools for coupled electromagnetic and thermal phenomena are introduced. In Chapt...

Managing Nothing

The Indian IT industry, which has grown at a phenomenal rate since 1991, today finds itself on the brink of a potentially painful transition to deliver more value and innovation. Managing Nothing throws new light on the challenge of innovation that has dogged the industry for over two decades. Drawing upon two decades of action research experience in two leading Indian IT firms, the author, through a narrative-reflexive inquiry, argues that the current crisis is not because leaders lacked foresight or business acumen. Instead, it is the limitation of mainstream managerial thought in dealing with the complexity of human interaction in global IT service networks that has reduced the pursuit of higher level capabilities such as consulting, service design and innovation to nothing. To help correct the situation, the book makes a startlingly obvious yet counter-intuitive suggestion: it exhorts managers and employees to pay attention to the small differences that emerge in ordinary day-to-day workplace interactions among people, i.e., the micro-politics of everyday work.
