This study examines the history of environmental issues that accompanied the growth of electrification throughout Great Britain since the 1920s. The focus is on the impact of power stations and the main transmission lines of England and Wales since the nationalization of the industry in 1947. This development has been the target of a great deal of criticism--from aesthetic complaints to concerns about pollution and radiation.
