Guide to Welsh Literature, 1280 - C. 1550
This volume of the very successful Guide to Welsh Literature series, examines the period from the end of the thirteenth century to the beginning of the sixteenth century. with poetry and the practice of the bardic craft. This was the period of the predominance of the cywydd metre, and separate chapters are devoted to seven of its most notable practitioners. The most outstanding of them being Dafydd Gwilym. literature is again stressed in this volume, and the final chapter emphasizes the links between Welsh prose-writers of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries and the broad intellectual movements of the age.

This book provides a detailed critical introduction to the literature of the Welsh language in the twentieth century. It is followed by chapters on the literature of the First World War, the rich poetic tradition, the novel, the short story, and drama. The volume closes with a survey of the contemporary situation. No period can compare with the twentieth century in terms of quantity or quality of literature. This abundance is assessed by a team of experts who write with critical authority on the state of modern Welsh literature. The result is an informative guide which shows what is both excellent and distinctive in twentieth-century Welsh literature.
