World Economic Outlook, October 2018

Global growth for 2018–19 is projected to remain steady at its 2017 level, but its pace is less vigorous than projected in April and it has become less balanced. Downside risks to global growth have risen in the past six months and the potential for upside surprises has receded. Global growth is projected at 3.7 percent for 2018–19—0.2 percentage point lower for both years than forecast in April. The downward revision reflects surprises that suppressed activity in early 2018 in some major advanced economies, the negative effects of the trade measures implemented or approved between April and mid-September, as well as a weaker outlook for some key emerging market and developing economie...

The author's recent results on geometry of symmetric matrices and of hermitian matrices are included. A chapter on linear algebra over a division ring and one on affine and projective geometry over a division ring are also included. The book is clearly written so that graduate students and third or fourth year undergraduate students in mathematics can read it without difficulty.

This study addresses derivatives instruments in Islamic finance. It highlights the benefits of these instruments, their legal aspects and the appropriate alternatives. The forward, futures and options contracts in commodity markets are discussed and the arguments in favour of and against these instruments examined. The forward contracts issue includes the possibility of trading gold in forward basis, the forward market for currencies and the possible alternative to manage related risks. With the examination of futures contracts, the main arguments against such a contract are addressed, for example the sale prior to taking possession and the sale of debt hedging and speculation. The study proposes "khiyar al-shart" and "bay al-arbun" as tools of risk management and alternatives to options. The sale of pure rights is at the center of the admissibility of options in Islamic law and is investigated comprehensively.

The Islamic Gold Dinar

"After delving into the problems of the present monetary system, it then argues how a return to a gold payment system - like the Islamic dinar - could solve many of the woes of today's economic system. A return to such a system is not only desirable from the economic, political, social and religious perspectives, but also urgent in the present era of globalisation and impending world recession, besides providing a conducive environment for Islamic economics, banking and finance to flourish." "Ahamed Kameel Mydin Meera is the Head of the Department of Business Administration, Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences, International Islamic University Malaysia, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia."--BOOK JACKET.

Abandoned housing projects is one the major problems in housing industry in Peninsular Malaysia. The reasons leading to this problem are many. To date, there is no effective and once-and-for-all means to face the problems of abandoned housing projects. One of the factors which causes abandonment of housing projects in Peninsular Malaysia, is the lack of political will on part of the government to adopt an affirmative better housing delivery system such as the ‘full build then sell system’ and the introduction of a housing development insurance to face the p...
