Se plasma en esta obra la manera en que la población afectada por oncocercosis en 1945 fue analizada por un grupo de antropólogos. Este análisis tenía el cometido de identificar y describir lugares donde se localizaba una terrible enfermedad causada por un mosquito que dejaba ciegos tanto a habitantes como a trabajadores de fincas cafetaleras en la costa de Chiapas y a población situada en la porción norte del estado de Oaxaca.
