Ecclesiastics and political state building in the Iberian monarchies, 13th-15th centuries
The project "The European Dimension of a Group of Power: Ecclesiastics and the political State Building of the Iberian Monarchies (13th-15th centuries)” supported by the Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia assembled an inter-university team, that brought together researchers from five Portuguese universities and three Spanish universities, as well as consultants from three different universities. The book now being published is one of the outcomes of the work undertaken by the Iberian inter-university team. It confirms the possibilities opened up by teamwork and compared perspectives, as well as the need to pursue this approach in order to clarify the circumstances and conditionalities of a relationship from which both sides benefited. Thus the studies gathered here seek to return to the question of the Church's and clerics' contribution to the construction of royalty, approaching the peninsular context in a comparative way and analysing that contribution on different levels.
The Marrano Factory
First published in Portuguese in 1969, this is the only work by Antonio Jose Saraiva available in English and the only single-volume history devoted primarily to the working of the Portuguese Inquisition, a most lucid and compact survey. "The Marrano Factory" argues that the Portuguese Inquisition s stated intention of extirpating heresies and purifying Portuguese Catholicism was a monumental hoax; the true purpose of the Holy Office was the fabrication rather than the destruction of "Judaizers."

La ciudad hispánica en la Baja Edad Media se inserta en el proceso de examen y reconstrucción de la realidad urbana en los reinos de la Península Ibérica en el período bajomedieval, específicamente desde parámetros de análisis de tipo identidad. Los estudios recogidos en esta obra persiguen el doble objetivo de comprender el fenómeno urbano (en sus aspectos político-identitarios) en una dimensión «panhispánica» capaz de presentar problemas coincidentes en distintas áreas políticas de la península,trascendiendo los análisis «regionales» y compartiendo respuestas de carácter más global; y de perseguir una más completa visión de estos problemas en el conjunto de la Península urbana, así como una ampliación del espectro de cuestiones susceptibles de análisis, enfatizando siempre el interés por un enfoque decididamente comparatista.

U příležitosti životního jubilea prof. PhDr. Ivana Hlaváčka, CSc., se 25 domácích i zahraničních badatelů zaměřilo na zkoumání různých forem panovnické reprezentace v písemné kultuře ve středověku. První blok byl věnován každodennosti a formám reprezentace na panovnickém dvoře, přičemž téma bylo sledováno jak ve vazbě na konkrétní vládce, tak i v širším komparativním rámci. Další oddíl se zaměřil na vnímání královského majestátu optikou současných i následujících generací, a to zejména pohledem autorů narativní, naučné či kazatelské literatury. Do poslední části byly zahrnuty příspěvky věnované různým oblastem panovnické správy a problémům úředních písemností ve středověku.
